PPWA Special Update:  October 7, 2022

It goes without saying that the past week has been trying for all of us.  I know that as I write this some of you still don’t have power or internet.  Ian tested our patience and preparedness, but all in all I think it fair to say that we are fortunate that things were not worse. There are so many communities, particularly to the south of us where lives, families, homes were changed forever.  I am certainly personally grateful for what we have.

Staying informed is most important because this is still a fluid situation and things can change quickly.  Please read all HOA communications and Club Management emails carefully for the most updated information.
The Clubhouse will be closed for some time while repairs are being made.  This will affect us the most.  Activity Leaders need to be creative in finding ways to meet without using the Clubhouse.  Meetings and gatherings are the connectivity of our community and we need to be creative, making sure that proper communications are sent out.
I am looking into some meeting spaces in the area that can accommodate the larger group meetings.  That information will be available as we get confirmations.  Please Note: The New Activity Leader Orientation on October 19th will be held at my home 964 Chickadee Drive.  This will be a small hands-on meeting. The PPWA Board Meeting on October 17th and all future Board Meetings, till further notice, will be held at my home 964 Chickadee Drive. I know that many of you are and have been helping neighbors in the clean up effort.  Thank you for your genuine care and concern.  It is our volunteerism which makes Pelican Pointe such a special community to live in.
I will be communicating with you as new information becomes available.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me directly.

Respectfully,
Luisa Goldman, PPWA President

             PPWA 2022 Scholarship Recipients

The Pelican Pointe Women’s Association is pleased to announce its recipients for the 2022 PPWA Scholarship Program. Each year since 2019 the PPWA has awarded a scholarship to an outstanding young woman from Venice High School who will be pursuing higher education in Florida. This year, due to additional donations from Pelican Pointe Women’s Association members, a total of four scholarships were made possible. The recipients were selected from among a pool of highly qualified applicants. All four young women selected have demonstrated outstanding academic and personal achievement, consistently maintaining the highest academic standards while contributing significantly to their school and community. An Award Luncheon for recipients and their guests was held on May 2nd at Pelican Pointe Golf & Country Club. This year’s recipients are: Ms. Sophia Burns who will attend the University of Central Florida majoring in Biology with plans on becoming an OB/GYN Physician; Ms. Shannon Dowdy who will major in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Florida with the goal of becoming a pioneering Healthcare Engineer; Ms. Thea Janes who will attend Florida State University majoring in Neuroscience leading to a career as a Physician’s Assistant specializing in Neurology; and Ms. Lauren McMahon who will study Health Sciences at the State College of Florida with a goal to become a Physician or Physician Assistant.”
